Teresa Berganza in Rossini's The Barber of Seville

One of my favorite Rosinas ever, Teresa Berganza, passed away.
She was one of the best mezzo sopranos from the golden generation of artists.

The most recent production of Romeo and Juliet by Gounod in Florence at the Maggio Musicale Festival

Gounod began to compose an opera after Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, named Capuleti ei Montecchi, but did not finish it. Later, In 1865, the composer returned to the Shakespearean drama by entrusting the writing of the libretto to Jules Barbier and Michel Carrè, who were already authors of Faust. So two years later, on April 27, 1867, Romeo and Juliette made its debut in Paris, achieving immediate success.
